Senate Bill 499, introduced by three Oregon Senators on February 7, 2013, would prohibit employers and universities, both public and private, from requiring applicants to turn over passwords to their personal social networking or email accounts. The so called "Social Networking Privacy Protection Act" is modeled on similar legislation passed in Maryland, Delaware, Illinois, and California.
