GAO Posts Report On Specialty Hospitals

United States Food, Drugs, Healthcare, Life Sciences

On May 15, 2003, the GAO posted the above referenced report including  "Information on National Market Share, Physician Ownership and Patients Served."  The report finds that specialty hospitals treat somewhat healthier patients than do full service acute care hospitals, leaving the latter facilities to cope with a less profitable patient base.  Representatives of the specialty hospital industry, however, claim that the report is misleading.  The report addresses an issue of increasing concern to acute care hospitals and may be found at http://www.gao.gov/.
