Legislation Proposed To Standardize Physician Managed Care Contracts

United States Food, Drugs, Healthcare, Life Sciences

Senator Jane Nelson (R-Flower Mound) filed Senate Bill 159 ("S.B. 159"), which would give the Commissioner of Insurance rulemaking authority to adopt, in consultation with an appointed contract advisory panel, a standard contract form for use by managed care entities in contracting with physicians. Senator Nelson filed substantially similar legislation last session, which failed during the end of session to make it off of the General State Calendar. This legislation is supported by the Texas Medical Association.
