Important New Fee Changes

The International Bureau of the WIPO has informed the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), that due to changes in the exchange rate of the U.S. dollar with regard to the Swiss franc, the dollar amounts of certain fees for international applications filed in the United States Receiving Office (RO/US) and the handling fee required by USPTO when acting as an International Preliminary Examining (IPEA/US) will be changed, effective January 1, 2011.

The International Bureau of the WIPO has also informed the USPTO that an increased dollar amount has been established for the search fees required by the Australian Patent Office, the European Patent Office, and the Korean Intellectual Property Office with effect from January 1, 2011.

The amount of these fees will be:

International Application Fees (Chapter I)

Search Fees

  • European Patent Office as the ISA - $2443
  • Korean Intellectual Property Office as the ISA - $1157
  • Australian Patent Office as the ISA - $1837

International Fees

  • International filing fee (for first 30 pages of the international application) - $1367
  • International filing fee (first 30 pages - filed in paper with PCT-EASY file on diskette, CD-R or DVD-R or filed electronically without PCT-EASY zip file) - $1264
  • International filing fee (first 30 pages – filed electronically with PCT-EASY zip file) - $1161
  • Supplemental fee for each additional page over 30 - $15

International Application Fees (Chapter II)

  • Handling fee - $206
