According to a recent report from The Real Deal, while there are roughly 2,600 billionaires worldwide, only a few dozen uber-wealthy buyers are shopping for real estate in New York City at a given time. These privileged few, assisted by an array of specialized attorneys, money managers, advisers and accountants, go to great lengths to protect their anonymity when purchasing high-end properties.
Speaking to The Real Deal, Barry Landsman, Counsel in Pryor Cashman's Real Estate Group, who represents many high and ultra high-net-worth individuals in luxury residential transactions (including some of the largest deals to close in NYC this year), said he intentionally keeps a low profile. (The Real Deal noted he's done just a handful of media interviews over the years.) "[Clients] don't like to see my name in lights. They're the famous ones," he said.
"We'll have NDAs [nondisclosure agreements] with everyone involved — brokers, lenders attorneys, engineers, interior designers, architects, contractors. Everybody," Landsman said, adding that he and his staff have also signed deeds for clients on occasion.
