The Office of the Attorney General ("OAG") published a May 14, 2004 letter, providing information regarding its web-based "Residential Death Reporting" system and clarifying the death reporting requirements imposed on health care facilities. Senate Bill 826, which became effective September 1, 2003, requires the timely reporting of certain deaths to the OAG. Information on certain deaths which superintendents and general managers of a hospital, institution, prison, or jail have been required to transmit to Justices of the Peace or Medical Examiners, must now be transmitted to the OAG. The law requires notification of reportable deaths within 24 hours of the death and the filing of the relevant facts within 72 hours of the death. The OAG has provided an efficient web-based reporting system for timely and accurate online "Residential Death Reporting" notification, including additional security to provide facilities with a means to review prior submissions. To access the online notification system and the "Residential Death Reporting" form, go to the OAG website: www.oag.state.tx.us.
