The New York City Council passed a bill expected to be signed by
Mayor Bill de Blasio that explicitly provides for freelancers and
independent contractors to be protected under the New York City
Human Rights Law. This means that employers would be at risk from
discrimination and/or harassment law suits or commission complaints
from their independent contractors.
