The £5billion question

The government has published a consultation seeking views on more stringent minimum energy efficiency standards (MEES) for commercial properties, with their preference being for the minimum standard to be increased to a rating of B by 2030. The government's modelling indicates that this increase would bring 85% of buildings into scope, requiring an investment cost of approximately £5 billion before 2030. The average payback period for the required investment would be four to five years.

The consultation, which applies to both England and Wales, can be accessed here.  Responses are required by 7 January 2020 and we would urge all interested parties to provide their comments.
