On July 10, the Information Commissioners' Office
("ICO")
issued a Notice of Intent to issue a monetary penalty of
£500,000 on a social media company. The ICO determined that
the company failed to safeguard its users' personal data when
providing the data to a third party and failed to be transparent
with users about the use of their data by third parties. The ICO
issued this notice on public interest grounds and will hear
representations from Facebook before issuing a final decision.
