Following the final text of the GDPR that was published in the Official Journal in May 2016, Wedlake Bell presented a webinar on Thursday 12 May, explaining the main changes and what to expect going forward.

The final text of the GDPR will come into force by June. It will introduce significant changes to existing data protection law, and virtually all businesses will be affected. The GDPR will apply to all organisations in the private, public and third sectors that process personal information, whether about their employees, customers, clients or suppliers. Organisations that fail to comply risk heavy penalties, including fines of up to 4% total worldwide annual turnover or €20,000,000. The provisions will take effect after a two year 'sunrise' period, during which organisations must prepare for the new regime.

The session, led by James Castro-Edwards and Jonathan Wright explained the main changes of the General Data Protection Regulation GDPR, and how companies should prepare themselves before the provisions take effect.
