Today the Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change granted development Consent for the Clocaenog Forest Wind Farm in Wales.
The project, proposed by RWE Innogy UK Ltd involves development of up to 32 wind turbines with an installed capacity of between 64 and 96 MW with an overall height of up to 145m in Clocaenog Forest, Denbighshire.
The Secretary of State concluded that there is a case for granting consent; "given the contribution it will make to the production of renewable energy and that this case is not outweighed by the potential adverse local impacts of the development as mitigated in the proposed terms of the order." The development was considered to be consistent with National Policy Statements: EN1 and EN3. The order was granted with only minor drafting changes which were not considered to materially alter its effect.
Construction on the wind farm is expected to begin in 2016.
