No-one can have failed to see the recent headlines regarding the discovery of horsemeat in various meat products across a raft of products stocked by various supermarkets.

As each day passes, further details emerge of potentially fraudulent practices permeating the supply chain leading to well-known supermarkets withdrawing products from their shelves. Whilst the revelations have so far only affected supermarkets, there are concerns that contaminated products could have reached consumers via other outlets such as restaurants, hotels and schools.

This puts into sharp focus two issues for retailers and the leisure industry: securing the integrity of your supply chain and protecting your brand. Both of these are key to maintaining consumer confidence and brand value and both involve close team-working, within and outside the organisation.
