A growing global appetite

UK Food & Beverage 2020 overview video

Background

We are pleased to announce the launch of UK Food and Beverage 2020 – A growing global appetite. This is the third report in the series and provides our insights on the issues, trends and challenges the industry faces in the next decade. It is based on discussions with more than 50 chief executives and senior managers at leading UK and global food and beverage companies.

With the growth of the middle class in emerging markets, the food and beverage industry has significant opportunity to meet this increasing demand through exports, whilst also strengthening its presence in more mature markets. In this report we look at the challenges increasing global demand will present and how UK food and beverage businesses can profit from them.

Key findings

  • The growing global appetite and extreme climatic events are putting pressure on scarce resources
  • Responding to global demand moving eastwards is providing new growth opportunities for UK producers, both to service more domestic demand and to build profitable export businesses
  • There is also some room to achieve sustainable growth closer to home by addressing a series of challenges linked to production efficiency, security of supply, changes in consumer behaviours, new value propositions, intense retail competition and a complex regulatory regime.
