The UK Border Agency (UKBA) recently announced that Sponsors under the Tier 2 Points Based System will have to submit new requests for a further allocation of Certificates of Sponsorship (CoS) for the next 12 months of their licence. Under the current Sponsor Management System (SMS), every Sponsor had to request an allocation of CoS from the UKBA. The UKBA is now beginning to issue notifications to the Authorising Officer in each Sponsor, stating the date on which their unassigned CoS for the current year will be invalid. CoS allocations shall begin to expire from 28 November 2009.

Sponsors are advised to submit applications for the next allocation of CoS no later than 4 weeks before the expiry date indicated in the UKBA notification.

UKBA will begin to consider applications on 5 October 2009. Sponsors should respond immediately on receipt of the UKBA notification to ensure that there is no period when they are unable to sponsor migrant workers. The CMS Cameron McKenna team will be happy to assist with this process.
