The MoD has recently announced its intention to establish new Framework Agreements under its Next Generation Estate Contracts (NGEC) programme.

Split into six geographical regions:

  1. Scotland;
  2. North East, North West and Yorkshire & the Humber;
  3. West Midlands & Wales;
  4. East of England and East Midlands;
  5. South East (including London); and
  6. South West;

the four year Frameworks will provide for capital works projects, including design, construction, engineering and installation contracts, valued up to £12 million each.

In addition, the MoD also intends to establish a UK-wide national framework for the purpose of individual construction projects valued up to £50 million.

With estimated total contract values of between £100m and £250m for each of the regional Frameworks, and £250m to £400m for the national Framework, the Frameworks not only present an opportunity for leading players in the construction industry and the wider supply chain, but are also likely to provide valuable opportunities for small and medium enterprises to be considered as potential subcontractors.

Full copies of the Contract Notices for the Frameworks can be found in the Defence Contracts Bulletin (for those who subscribe to DCB) or more widely on Tenders Electronic Daily.

Lastly, but perhaps most importantly, the deadline for expressions of interest in any of the Frameworks is 28 February 2011.  So, if your organisation is interested - including in supply chain opportunities - now is the time to act!
