A Bill appears to be quietly making its way through Parliament to prevent pubs and local independent shop from being used for a supermarket and for connected purposes (which currently does not require planning permission).

The change if it is enacted will mean that planning permission will be required for such changes. Will we see the saving local pubs and local butchers and bakers or will it just result in more empty premises in retail areas?

The second reading of the Bill is due to take place on 26 October 2012.
