Part 2.4 - Foreign Investment - Stock Exchange In South Africa

South Africa Corporate/Commercial Law
The Johannesburg Stock Exchange is the only stock exchange operating in South Africa. In addition to the main board listing, there are Development Capital Market (DCM) and Venture Capital Market (VCM) sectors. The criteria for listing in the DCM sector are less stringent than for the main board, and those for the VCM sector are less stringent than for the DCM, in recognition of the nature of the VCM.

Financial markets in instruments other than equities are at various stages of development. The Financial Markets Control Act was promulgated in 1990, and the South African Futures Exchange, dealing in financial futures and options, is the first financial market to be regulated under that Act.
