Consequently, foreigners intending to practice any profession in science, engineering, technology, medicine, accountancy etc. are required to acquire appropriate professional certifications from relevant regulatory bodies in Nigeria.

This move, when implemented, is expected to put Nigeria in a better position to acquire the necessary technology to build local capacity. This is to be achieved by ensuring that only foreign experts with the appropriate skills are employed in Nigeria and that they pass on the relevant expertise to their Nigerian understudies.

It would be of interest to see how this new policy would impact the approval process of technical agreements by National Office for Technology Acquisition and Promotion (NOTAP) and Nigeria's immigration policy for expatriates, amongst others.
