Philanthropy, tax information exchange and the role of international finance centres in an evolving wealth management landscape will all feature on the agenda at Jersey Finance's Annual Private Client Conference in London in May.

Jersey Finance is hosting its London Private Client Conference on Tuesday 14th May at the British Museum to discuss current issues affecting the wealth management arena and highlight future trends and opportunities for wealth management professionals.

Taking to the stage as one of the keynote speakers will be renowned broadcaster and BBC political editor Nick Robinson, who will provide an assessment of the current and potential future political landscape.

Monica Bhatia, Head of the Global Forum on Transparency and Exchange of Information for Tax Purposes for the OECD will also give a keynote speech, focusing on the current drive behind information exchange trends and exploring whether changes are the temporary results of economic forces or part of the longer-term picture.

The final keynote will be David Harvey, Chief Executive of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP), who will discuss the evolution of philanthropy and changing attitudes to philanthropic giving as part of wider wealth management strategies.

In addition to the three keynote addresses, there will be two panel debates. The first, involving Monica Bhatia as well as Richard Hay, Partner at Stikeman Elliott, and Louise Somerset, Tax Director at RBC Wealth Management, will look at 'routine tax planning' and 'tax avoidance', examining whether and how it is possible to differentiate between the two.

The second panel will look at divergence within the private client world. Alan Binnington, President of The Jersey Association of Trust Companies, will be joined by Partners from Bedell Group (Edward Bennett), Ogier (Steve Meiklejohn) and Appleby (Naomi Rive) to discuss how structures and services are evolving in response to a changing wealth management environment.

Matthew Slater, a commercial chancery barrister and Treasury Counsel at 3 Stone Buildings, will also speak on the recently announced intention to introduce into Jersey trust law a statutory codification of the law of mistake and the 'rule in Hastings-Bass'.

Geoff Cook, CEO, Jersey Finance, who will provide an introduction at the event, said:

"The regulatory, taxation and political environment has presented private client professionals with a wide range of challenges this past year and, with the G8 summit taking place this summer, we can expect that to continue over the coming months. This year, our Private Client Conference aims to look at the issues arising from this shifting landscape and provide private client and wealth management professionals with some clarity and food for thought not just as to how to surmount any challenges but also to make the most of the opportunities change brings.

"The modern private client world is one that Jersey very much plans to play a part in shaping and, to this end, I am delighted that we have been able to bring together such an impressive line-up of thought leaders and sector experts for our conference. I am sure the event will generate some interesting and thought-provoking debate."

Jersey Finance's Private Client Conference takes place on Tuesday 14th May 2013 at the British Museum, London, starting at 12.30pm and finishing at 5.30pm, with a drinks reception afterwards.
