The Islands are connected with each other, with the UK and increasingly with continental Europe by scheduled air services. Air freight and charter services are also available as well as facilities for private aircraft.
The Islands have direct dialling telephone and facsimile links with the UK and with the rest of the world, with the Islands being within the UK's international prefix (+44). The telecommunications facilities are in line with the latest digital standards, with both analogue and GSM mobile telephones being fully operational. Furthermore the Internet can be accessed via local service providers or by those based in the UK. There are submarine cable systems to the UK and a digital link through France to the UK, so communications may be maintained even when a cable is damaged. In addition a microwave link is available in the event of emergencies.
