In order to further boost the air transportation in India, the Government of India proposes to set up several greenfield airports at various locations across India and has already granted its "in principle" approval for setting up of 15 greenfield airports at:

1. Mopa (Goa);

2. Navi Mumbai (Maharashtra);

3. Shirdi (Maharashtra);

4. Sindhudurg (Maharashtra);

5. Bijapur (Karnataka);

6. Gulbarga (Karnataka);

7. Hasan (Karnataka);

8. Shimoga (Karnataka);

9. Kannur (Kerala);

10. Aranmula (Kerala);

11. Durgapur (West Bengal);

12. Dabra (Madhya Pradesh);

13. Pakyong (Sikkim);

14. Karaikal (Pudducherry); and

15. Kushinagar (Uttar Pradesh).

In addition to the aforesaid the Government of India has laid down the Route Dispersal Guidelines for the purpose of achieving better regulation of air transport services taking into account the need for air transport services of different regions of the country, and Government of India has also set up the Airports Economic Regulatory Authority, an independent regulatory body for the purpose of determining tariff for aeronautical services provided at major airports in India.
