On January 24, 2017, the Office of the Privacy Commissioner for
Personal Data, Hong Kong ("PCPD") reported a general lack
of awareness among Internet of Things ("IoT") device
manufacturers regarding communicating privacy and security
protection measures to consumers. The report stems from a study conducted by PCPD to
explore the privacy challenges and implications brought by fitness
bands and their apps. The PCPD urged manufacturers engaged in the development
of IoT devices to improve their privacy communications so that
consumers can assess the privacy impact and take necessary steps to
protect their personal data.
