On March 11, the German federal government presented its plan (source document in German) to promote research and development regarding IT security. With a budget of €180M until 2020, the government plans to promote particular encryption technologies to protect personal data and communication services. The plan focuses on four areas: new technologies, secure and trustworthy information and communication systems, application areas of IT security, and privacy and protection of data.
