The Cyprus Parliament has passed Law 1(III) of 2010 ratifying the Cooperation Agreement signed in 2009 between the Republic of Cyprus and the European Space Agency (ESA), which creates a framework for more intensive cooperation between the two in space projects.

Following its successful participation in the Hellas-Sat joint venture with Greece, Cyprus has now formed an advisory committee under the aegis of the Ministry of Communications and Works to deal with space issues and to formulate a national space strategy. Environmental issues, especially maritime surveillance, are areas where it is envisaged that Cyprus could play a more active role in space and the ESA will assist in identifying potential joint projects.
