The Nation, Thailand's principal English-language business
newspaper, recently reported on the attractions of Cyprus's
economic citizenship scheme for Thai investors. Quoting the Cyprus
High Commissioner to India, who is also accredited to Thailand and
was meeting with the Thai Prime Minister to discuss trade and other
cooperation, it reported that Cyprus "is targeting more
capital from Thailand, attracting investors with easy migrant
permission to become an EU citizen through investment", and
that it "expects to raise capital from Thai investors in ...
sectors including property, energy, oil and gas, infrastructure and
tourism."
Thailand has an economic citizenship scheme of its own, but it
is much less advantageous than the Cyprus scheme, which brings with
it the benefits of citizenship of an EU member state, particularly
visa-free travel to many countries.
