An executive meeting of the State Council, China's Cabinet, on Wednesday, decided to further deepen healthcare reform.

One of the reforms is to build a national network for basic health insurance settlement so that citizens nationwide can reimburse their medical expenses in different areas around the country.

In a survey launched by the Central People's Government Website during the annual sessions of its top legislature and advisory body this year, "promoting a national network of basic health insurance settlement" ranked top of people's concerns.

At present, domestic medical insurance policies are only valid regionally, which causes many difficulties for ordinary people. A national network of basic health insurance settlement will make it more convenient for people to access hospital treatment nationwide.

The decision shows the central government's determination to solve problems related to people's well-being. To promote reform of the national medical insurance settlement network, the authorities should draw up a clear timetable and road map, clarify the specific responsibilities of various sectors and strictly supervise the implementation of the reform.
