Jul 31, 2019 – Canada has implemented a temporary public policy to offer a pathway to permanent residence for 500 out-of-status construction workers in the Greater Toronto Area.

The policy is aimed at construction workers and their families who initially came to Canada on a temporary work permit, but lost their status.

"These construction workers have come to Canada and made contributions to its economy and currently have limited means to regularize their status," an Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada statement said.

The Temporary Public Policy for Out-of-Status Construction Workers in the GTA is also designed to help address labour shortages in the construction industry in the region.
