March 20, 2019 - Canadians travelling to Europe will soon be required to have a new travel authorization, obtained by filling out an online form and paying a small fee.

March 19, 2019 – Canadians travelling to Europe will soon be required to have a new travel authorization, obtained by filling out an online form and paying a small fee.

Similar to Canada's Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA), the new European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS) is set to become a requirement in January 2021.

European Union officials say the restrictions are design to limit illegal immigration and will apply for all international travellers who do not required a formal visa.
