March 13, 2019 – Canada's immigration minister has announced an extra 2,000 spaces for intermediate-skilled workers under the Provincial Nominee Program.

Ahmed Hussen says the spaces under National Occupational Code C are aimed at increasing opportunities for temporary foreign workers to transition to permanent residence.

Hussen made the announcement via an Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada press release on Tuesday, March 12, 2019.

"Temporary foreign workers fill long-term labour market needs and contribute to the growth of our economy," Hussen said.

"We recognize the need to provide opportunities for them to transition to permanent residence – and these additional spaces under the Provincial Nominee Program will do just that."
