The government of Manitoba announced today that it has issued a new request for pre-qualifications (RFPQ) to increase the number of retail cannabis stores in the province.

The province's goal is to create a network of locations over the next two years where 90% of Manitobans can access legal cannabis in less than a 30-minute drive. This new plan is being launched to give Manitobans better access to regulated retailers while hoping to reduce demand for black market cannabis when legalization in Canada comes into force on October 17, 2018.

The RFPQ is available at www.merx.com and the deadline for submissions is August 31, 2018. Subscription needed to download documents.

In the initial RFPQ that took place in early 2018, four groups were chosen to run 30 locations. Manitoba offers a unique opportunity as it has chosen to provide a hybrid retail model to consumers whereby government bodies will regulate the distribution of cannabis and private sector stores will be licensed to sell it.
