Former football player O.J. Simpson could soon be released from prison. O.J. has been given a parole hearing scheduled for July 20th that would grant him release on October 1st, 2017.
In 2008 he was found guilty of armed robbery, kidnapping, and other charges from a confrontation with sport memorabilia dealer who reportedly had some of his personal mementos that were taken from him following his 1995 acquittal in the killings of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald Goldman in Los Angeles. These mementos consisted of family photos and other similar items.
He will appear before the panel through a video conference from the medium-security prison with which he is being held in, Lovelock Correctional Center and alongside him will be his lawyer, Malcolm LaVergne. The panel consists of four parole commissioners.
Simpson was not alone when the 2008 incident occurred. Five others were arrested, four of which pleaded guilty to felony charges and testified for the prosecution. O.J. and CJ Stewart were found guilty with charges of:
- Assault with a deadly weapon
- Burglary
- Conspiracy
Stewart was later sentences to probation as he was tried separately after being convicted. He then pleaded the equivalent of no contest to his charges.
It is believed O.J. will want to live a quiet life if he is granted parole, as his current sentence could have him incarcerated for at least another 20 years if not granted.
