The Government of Canada has released a Notice announcing that Roger R. Lafrenière, a prothonotary with the Federal Court for over 18 years, has been appointed a judge of the Federal Court.

Industry Updates

CIPO has released a Notice that it will be launching three public consultations on proposed amendments to the Industrial Design Regulations, the Trade-marks Regulations and the Patent Rules as part of its preparations to accede to five international intellectual property (IP) treaties: the Hague Agreement, the Madrid Protocol, the Singapore Treaty, the Nice Agreement, and the Patent Law Treaty. The notice indicates that consultations will occur from:

  • June 19 to July 14 on the proposed Industrial Design Regulations;
  • June 19 to July 21 on the proposed Trade-marks Regulations; and
  • August 1 to September 8 on the proposed Patent Rules.

CIPO has released a Notice that the Patent Branch received the ISO 9001:2015 certification.

CIPO has released a Notice that it will be introducing an updated look and feel to the general correspondence for patents, industrial designs and copyright online services. The Notice indicates that these online services will be updated so that they comply with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's Standard on Web Accessibility.
