In an announcement earlier today, Health Canada advised that it will be conducting random testing of medical cannabis products produced by licensed producers.

This move comes about in response to two recent voluntary recalls by licensed producers of medical marijuana containing low levels of prohibited pest control products.  The Access to Cannabis for Medical Purposes Regulations (ACMPR) only allows licensed producers to use pest control products that are approved for use on cannabis under the Pest Control Products Act (PCPA).  Currently, there are 13 such pest control products:

  • Actinovate SP
  • Agrotek Ascend Vaporized Sulphur
  • Bioprotec Caf
  • Bioprotec Plus
  • Botanigard 22 WP
  • Botanigard ES
  • Kopa Insecticidal Soap
  • MilStop Foliar Fungicide
  • Neudosan Commercial
  • Opal Insecticidal Soap
  • Rootshield(R) WP Biological Fungicide
  • Rootshield HC Biological Fungicide Wettable Powder
  • Vegol Crop Oil

No other pest control products can be sprayed on, or applied to, fresh or dried marijuana, marijuana plants or seeds by licensed producers.
