The federal government recently tabled a bill to amend the Canada Not-for-profit Corporations Act ("CNCA") as well as the Canada Business Corporations Act, the Canada Cooperatives Act and the Competition Act; the bill received first reading on September 28, 2016. The changes to the CNCA are largely technical, involving some wording clarifications and a requirement for the Director to publish notices of decision if the Director grants certain applications under the CNCA, such as the application to become a non-soliciting corporation.
