One of the biggest challenges facing Canadian startups has been consistent access to growth capital in Canada. TMX Group recently announced that it is funding the Advancing Innovation Roundtable, an independent working group reviewing strategies to facilitate access to growth capital for companies in Canada's innovation economy. The Roundtable is planning to launch this fall.

The goal of the Roundtable is to unlock growth opportunities in Canada. It will initially focus on early growth and scalability issues of Canadian technology and innovation companies. The Roundtable is planning to deliver in early 2017, a set of actionable recommendations designed to enable and support the growth of the technology sector on a global scale.

"TMX is focused on powering the development of an innovation economy in Canada," said Lou Eccleston, Chief Executive Officer, TMX Group. "The Roundtable recommendations will help accelerate the growth of Canadian businesses and better position Canada's economy for high-quality economic development and job creation." This initiative is an important next step in further developing the Canadian technology ecosystem so that Canadian technology companies can succeed here at home.

The Roundtable will be composed of senior leaders in the Canadian investment community, including venture capital firms, private equity funds, banks and pension plans. It will be chaired by Salil Munjal, General Partner at Yaletown Partners, a leading private investment firm focused on financing growth-stage technology companies.
