March 4, 2016 – The implementation date for eTAs has been postponed from March 15, 2016 until sometime this fall. Travellers who do not have an eTA, and require one, can still board their flight after March 15th, as long as they have appropriate travel documents, such as a valid passport. During this grace period, border services officers can let travellers arriving without an eTA into the country, as long as they meet the other requirements to enter Canada.
This grace period will permit certain individuals with additional time to organize themselves prior to travelling to Canada. Permanent Residents of Canada, with cards that are expiring within the next nine months, are advised to apply for new Permanent Resident cards as soon as possible. Individuals who require eTAs and who may have inadmissibility issues are also advised to take steps to apply for a Temporary Resident Permits as soon as possible.
