January 7, 2016 – The Government of Ontario has confirmed that the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) has resumed accepting applications for its base stream. The base stream was closed in November 2015 when the annual target of 2,500 applications was reached. The reopened streams include the Master's and PhD stream, the International Student with a Job Offer stream, and the Foreign Worker stream.

The OINP was created to allow the province of Ontario to actively manage immigrant selection in accordance with Ontario priorities and needs. The OINP runs multiple streams, including the base stream, the Express Entry stream, as well as a Corporate stream and an Entrepreneur stream.
