On August 21, 2015, the CRA issued an advisory, reminding
registered charities that they are prohibited from devoting any of
their resources to partisan political activities during this
election period. The prohibition on partisan political activity is
a long-standing requirement under the Income Tax Act
(Canada). Registered charities that devote any resources to
partisan political activities (which involves direct or indirect
support of, or opposition to, any political party or candidate for
public office) may no longer be eligible for registration.
The advisory is available on the CRA's website: http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/chrts-gvng/chrts/cmmnctn/pltcl-ctvts/dvsry-eng.html
