The Federal, Alberta and British Columbia Information and Privacy Commissioners have issued a set of joint tips and guidance for organizations considering bring your own device programs (BYOD).

BYOD may be of interest to employers who wish to allow, or invite, their employees to use their own personal elecronic devices (including smartphones, tablets, laptops) while ensuring enterprise information and personal information is protected.

BYOD can be a challenging exercise from many perspectives, including considerations related to the technical, security, practical use, access and responsibility issues. Organizations will want to take varying approaches depending on a number of factors which may include corporate culture, resources, and the nature of informaton involved.
