Last month, Bill C-43, A second Act to implement certain provisions of the budget tabled in Parliament on February 11, 2014 and other measures, received First Reading.  If passed, the Criminal Code would be amended to allow charitable and religious organizations to use a computer for the sale of a ticket, selection of a winner, or the distribution of a prize in a provincially-licensed raffle. However, to benefit from this amendment, such organizations would need to obtain a licence to conduct the raffle and the proceeds must be used for a charitable or religious purpose.
