2013 has been a very busy year for not-for-profits, especially from a governance point of view. There is now less than 10 months for not-for-profits governed under the Canada Corporations Act to incorporate under the Canada Not-for-profit Corporations Act. It is still unknown as to when Ontario's Not-for-Profit Corporations Act, 2010 will come into force.

The Canada Revenue Agency published a number of guidances of interest to charities. Here are our postings of some of these items in case you missed them:

Next year will continue to be busy as not-for-profits and charities prepare to comply with Canada's anti-spam legislation, which will come into force on July 1, 2014. As a New Year's resolution, even though Bill C-458 (An Act respecting a National Charities Week and to amend the Income Tax Act (charitable and other gifts))  was withdrawn, we should mark our calendars to unofficially recognize National Charities Week in Canada the last seven days of February every year. Many of us are touched by a cause or two which charities in Canada are trying to improve and raise awareness of. Let us take a moment to remember them.
