The Office of the Information & Privacy Commissioner of BC has issued some Guidance for organizations to assist them in ensuring that their website privacy policies are compliant with legislative requirements. In a document entitled "Practical Suggestions for your Organizations Website's Privacy Policy" the Commissioner's Office offers up 10 suggestions to keep in mind when developing the policy:
- Clearly set out the basic
- Inform visitors if you are using cookies
- Inform visitors if information is being transferred outside of Canada
- Avoid mixing 'opt-in" and 'opt-out' consents
- Provide information regarding Access, Correction and Complaints
- Provide contact information
- Make the Policy easy to find
- Write the Policy in plain language
- Make the Policy specific to your organization
- Update the Policy regularly
