The Canadian Coalition for Good
Governance yesterday released a paper prepared by Professor Anita Anand of the University of
Toronto that examines the link between corporate
governance and firm value. The paper reviews the academic
literature and empirical research on the issue and concludes that,
while the question of causation has yet to be fully answered, there
is a statistically significant relationship between governance
measures (such as those related to board composition,
ownership structure and disclosure) and firm value.
