The Alberta Utilities Commission announced today that AltaLink's Western Alberta Transmission Line has been approved for construction.

This follows on last month's approval of ATCO's Eastern Alberta Transmission Line, which we discussed here.  We also discussed the troubled history of both of the transmission lines.

The 350 km direct current line, from the Genessee area to Langdon, will largely follow existing lines to minimize disturbance.  The project is expected to come into service in 2017 and cost $1.4 billion.
