On June 18, 2014, the Ontario Human Rights Commission released a new policy titled the Policy on preventing discrimination based on mental health disabilities and addictions.

The policy is aimed at bringing attention to the "considerable and longstanding discrimination, stigmatization and social exclusion" faced by Canadians with mental health disabilities and addictions.  It provides a high-level overview of the duty to accommodate and provides specific information regarding the accommodation of persons with mental health disabilities or addictions.

The policy is good reference point for employers on how to properly engage with individuals in the workplace who may suffer from mental health disabilities or addictions.
