In January 2016, the Brazilian National Institute of Industrial Property published the official 2015 statistics. The document, created by the Economic Affairs Advisory (AECON), shows stability in the number of filings compared to 2014.

Regarding ​​trademarks, INPI received 158,709 filings during 2015, compared to 157,016 in 2014 (1 percent increase). However, the increase in the number of examiners resulted in an increase in the number of decisions issued by INPI, which went up to 189,916 in 2015 compared to 157,600 in 2014.

Concerning ​​patent applications, there was a 0.4 percent decrease in 2015, with 33,182 filings compared to 33,043 in 2014.

There was also a slight decrease of 8.4 percent in the number of industrial design applications, which dropped from 6,590 in 2014 to 6,039 in 2015. As for the registration of technology contracts, it also decreased from 1,710 in 2014 to 1,400 in 2015.

The stability also reflected in the geographical indications (GI) and computer program filings. In the case of GI, the number of applications remained the same (12) in 2014 and 2015. Regarding software, the number of filings increased from 1,609 to 1,616.
