Brazil And Norway Sign A Memorandum Of Understanding On Maritime Transport Cooperation

Brazil and Norway signed, on 16/11/2015, a memorandum of understanding with a view to expand and enhance the cooperation of the parties in matters related to maritime transport.

The areas of cooperation contemplated in the MoU are:  the international maritime transport, port support services, offshore support services, maritime transport auxiliary services; vessels charter, as well the inclusion of any other areas according to the parties mutual agreement. 

The MoA sets forth  that the cooperation will take place, among other forms of cooperation, through the exchange of information, expertize and best practices, provision of technical and administrative cooperation, capacity building and training, development of joint projects, and facilitation of cooperation among companies and/or organizations of both parties.

The constitution of a coordination committee has already been scheduled which will regularly meet in order to define future activities, evaluate the progress and the results obtained as of the MoA. The Foreign Ministry, the Ministry of Transports, the Brazilian Navy, and the National Agency for Waterway Transportation (ANTAQ) are the Brazilian representatives in the coordination committee.

The MoA came into force as of the date of its signature, having an undetermined term, with the possibility of being terminated at any time by means of a six-month prior notice.
