The new Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (CCA) came into effect on 1 January this year, replacing the Trade Practices Act. With this legislation we have also seen the introduction of the new Australian Consumer Law - a uniform set of laws that have been specifically designed to give greater protection to consumers and provide businesses with a common set of obligations.
