The Department of Merchant Shipping has announced the
implementation of EU Directive 2013/53/EU on recreational craft and
personal watercraft, which replaced EU Directive 94/25/EC as
amended with effect from January 18 2016. The domestic harmonising
regulations – the Basic Requirements (Recreational Craft and
Personal Watercraft) Regulations 2016 – have been approved by
the government law office and are expected to be placed before
Parliament for approval this summer.
