Reflecting the poor outlook for future coal development and citing "continued market deterioration," a Colorado coal mine is reportedly stopping production.

Bowie Resource Partners, LLC ("BRP") announced that its wholly owned subsidiary, Bowie Resources, LLC will be idling its Bowie #2 mine near Paonia, Colorado, 74 miles east of Grand Junction.

According to BRP's corporate website, the Bowie #2 mine, BRP's only coal mine in Colorado, has been ranked #1 or #2 nationwide for efficient longwall production from 2000 to 2007 since it began producing in 1998. BRP's Bowie #2 mine produced clean-burning, high-BTU, low-sulfur compliance thermal coal.

The Bowie #2 mine is said to currently employ 108 full time employees and 1 contractor. "Some of the affected employees will be relocated where possible to fill vacancies in other parts of the business; however, layoffs are unfortunately unavoidable," said Gene E. DiClaudio, BRPs Chief Operating Officer, according to the recent article in PR Newswire.
